Things and Stuff Wiki - An organically evolving personal wiki knowledge base. An on-the-fly taxonomy containing a patchwork trail of topic outlines, descriptions, notes, stubs and breadcrumbs, with links to sites, systems, software, manuals, organisations, people, articles, guides, slides, papers, books, comments, videos, screencasts, webcasts, scratchpads and more. Content is orientated towards mostly free/libre/open, mostly Linux. Quality and age varies drastically. Sometimes old things are first, sometimes last. General

Logo key pressed once might start a launcher to open applications or files
(Ubuntu: holding the logo key down gives a keyboard shortcut display)

Holding Ctrl then pressing Tab switches to the next window
Holding Ctrl and Shift then pressing tab switches to the previous window

Holding Alt usually lets you open an application menu. Whilst holding that, pressing the underlined letter in the menu name will open that menu

Windows: If a window somehow moves off the visible screen - Holding Alt, pressing Space, releasing Alt, pressing 'm', then one press of any arrow key and then moving the mouse around will bring the lost window back to the visible screen.

Browsing

Middle clicking a web link will open it in a new tab
Middle clicking a tab will close it

On some laptops with just two buttons, clicking in the 'middle' of the buttons performs a middle click

Alt then Left or Right arrows to move backward and forward through a tabs page history

Mouse wheel up and down on the tab bar to move left and right between tabs
Ctrl then Page Up or Page Down to move left or right between browser tabs* Ctrl and Shift then Page Up or Page Down moves tabs left or right

Right click on tabs and Pin keep a site or page available, or for a 'deal with later' group

Ctrl and F4 to close a tab
Firefox: Ctrl then y reopens the last closed tab
Chrome: Shift and Ctrl then t reopens the last closed tab

Chrome: with the web inspector open, right clicking on reload gives extra options

F6 moves the cursor to and selects (copies) the address bar

Space scrolls a page down, shift-space scrolls a page up

Shift + mousescroll scrolls horizontally

Shift-Enter with the Find box selected searches backwards

Editing

Selecting any text and pressing Ctrl-x, to cut (if possible) Ctrl-v, to paste, Ctrl-c to copy text. These are also usually available in a right click or edit dialogue menu

Selecting any text in Linux copies it and scroll-wheel middle click pastes it, separate to the Ctrl-c Ctrl-v clipboard* This means triple clicking a web site paragraph copies it to the middle click paste clipboard* Or sometimes just double clicking if you hit the right spot

Ctrl then Left or Right jumps backwards or forwards a word

Ctrl, Shift then Left or Right to select a word backwards or forwards* Ctrl, Shift then Up or Down to select whole lines

Don't forget your home and end keys, and Delete for removing back the way when required* Click anywhere in a line then press Home, hold shift, hit Down (or End to keep the line-break) then Delete to remove a line and its linebreak

In browsers: Ctrl then y undoes
In apps: Ctrl then z undoes
